Loom  Loft Opens

This furniture and interiors store has recently opened at Barrow Brook Business Village, near Clitheroe.

The structure is steel framed and features a fully glazed front elevation, oversailing canopy roof, signage tower and internal steel / timber stair leading to a mezzanine 'loft' floor.

The drainage system includes permeable block paving and other SUDS components designed to limit surface water discharge and reduce flooding risk downstream.

DIY SOS Big Build - St Silas Church, Blackburn

We are delighted to have been able to assist in the conversion of this old church hall for local charity Nightsafe.

Working with IWA Architects, St Silas Church Community and the BBC, we provided structural advice and assistance with the internal remodelling of the building, allowing it to be converted into accommodation for young people who are homeless.

The show will air in November during the BBC Children in Need appeal.

New Private Residence, Whittle-le-Woods

This project has just been finished.  Working with David Cox Architects the floor area of the original early 20th century house was significantly increased by adding front, rear and side extensions. 

Substantial steel framing was used throughout to create the required open-plan internal spaces and allow extensive glazed areas to be formed in the external walls.

East Lancashire Hospice

We are very pleased to have been involved in this project for East Lancashire Hospice in Blackburn, recently completed and now fully operational.

The work involved remodelling the existing dining room, kitchen and offices, and providing further bedrooms, meeting areas and a private contemplation space.

Much use was made of timber, brick and stone in the building structure, creating a familiar and comfortable environment for patients and visitors.

The architects were Stanton Andrews.

Bury New Road, Prestwich

This small but interesting extension to retail and office premises has recently been completed.

The extension is steel framed, with a pre-cast concrete upper floor, metal clad or glazed walls, all on piled foundation.

The architect was Sunderland Peacock and Associates.

 

November 2018

Westec House, Ormskirk

This development of 27 houses has recently started on site.  Working with architect Arcus Consulting and contractor Cruden Construction, we are providing full civil and structural design services for client West Lancashire Borough Council.

Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk

This recently completed project has been well received by the public and client West Lancashire Borough Council.  The fully glazed entrance structure provides access to the ground floor cafe and houses a new lift leading to the first floor exhibition and events space.

Harden Park, Alderley Edge

This major housing development, worth more than 10.5 million (each property starts at around 1m) comprises 8 detached and 4 semi-detached luxury two-bedroom and four-bedroom homes. 

When complete the exclusive community will be accessible via a private road, encompassing spacious grounds, woodlands and an on-site lake; accounting for approximately 4.5 acres
of one of the most desirable areas of
the North West.

Reid Jones Partnership are very pleased to be providing full civil and structural engineering design input on the homes which are of high architectural quality, and on the access roads and sustainable drainage system.

The project is due for completion in 2019.

New Diving Test Tank for Northern Diver

Designed and detailed by Reid Jones Partnership and constructed within a quarry at Appley Bridge, the 25m deep test tank is accessed from a new 3 storey building which will house diving test equipment.

The diving test tank was constructed out of 4.60m diameter steel caisson rings.  The top section has been altered to accommodate a rectangular access tank and top splash plate.

The new section of access tank is supported at the top quarry level by a series of columns sat on cantilevered steel ground beams.

Holmes Mill Food Hall

Following the opening of the Bowland Beer Hall in 2016, the Holmes Mill Food Hall is now up and running.  Located in the former weaving sheds, the Food Hall features a new curved steel roof, erected over a previous modern replacement to the original north light roof of the sheds.  The evolution of the building from industrial production, through to storage warehouse and finally to a retail and leisure facility can clearly be seen.

Further developments in the pipeline at Holmes Mill include a fitness centre and possible cinema complex.

Bashall Barn Function Room

Bashall Barn is a restaurant, gallery and local farm produce location situated in the heart of Lancashire's beautiful Ribble Valley.  This new function room has just been opened.  Reid Jones Partnership designed the structure and foundations, working with architectural designer Allison Croft.

Winners of 2017 West Lancashire Design Awards Announced

Reid Jones Partnership are pleased to have had two of our projects nominated, one of which won its category, with the other receiving a commendation.

  • Extension to Needless Inn Barn, Lathom

Winner of the residential category.

Working with Matt Wood Architects, Reid Jones designed the structural frame and foundations for this 'glass box' extension.

  • Firbeck Revival Scheme, Skelmersdale

Commendation in the residential category.

Reid Jones Partnership provided a full civil and structural design service for this development of 42 new houses.  Architects were Arcus Consulting.

 

October 2016

Congratulations to John Houghton of our Wigan office who has passed his Institution of Structural Engineers Associate Membership Examination.

John sat the examination, which lasts 7 hours, earlier this year.  He can now use the designating letters IEng AMIStructE after his name.

Holmes Mill, Clitheroe

The first phase of the Holmes Mill complex has been opened to the public.  The Mill is now the home of the Bowland Brewery, and the adjoining Bowland Beer Hall houses Britain's longest bar at 32 metres, serving 42 artisan hand-pulled cask ales.

Future phases will include function rooms, a hotel and a leisure centre.

Wedding Facility, Bolton

Steelwork is being erected to complete the main entrance to the building.  The entrance is in the form of a three-storey glazed atrium, housing the main circulation stairs, lifts and a VIP bar.

The project is due for completion in 2017.
