Regional Building Excellence Award Winner

Lymm home wins building award for best extension

An extension to a house by the Lymm Dam in Cheshire has won an award for the best domestic extension in LABC’s north west building excellence awards.

The award was given to the house on Baycliffe because of its sensitive location, sloping site overlooking the Lymm Dam, quality of design and build and onsite problem solving.

LABC Chief Executive Paul Everall said “Our regional building excellence awards are an opportunity to celebrate good practice.  All our winners demonstrated how attention to detail and a positive working relationship with Building Control departments can achieve high quality and sustainable buildings fit for the future.  Our awards are unique because they recognise how the work of local authority surveyors helps to improve building standards and boost sustainability and efficiency.

“This project was a deserved winner because of the technical challenges that were overcome in modernising this property in a sympathetic way to take account of its sensitive location and building constraints.”

Also commended was a swimming pool extension at a house in a Blundellsands, Merseyside.

More than 500 people from the construction industry across the north west of England attended the awards at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium on Friday 26 April.
